Winston-Salem has been the site of R. J. Reynolds Tobacco Company, the second largest tobacco company in the United States. The Camel brand, introduced in 1913, was produced here and later became the most popular brand in the world. The production facilities have been located since the 1980s in the neighboring village of Tobaccoville, 20 minutes away. northwest of Winston-Salem.

- 1 West End Historic District (Winston-Salem's Front Porch), W. Fourth St. and Brookstown Ave. (North at Broad St. exit on Business 40 in downtown Winston-Salem, then left onto W. Fourth St. until at Brookstown). The West End of Winston-Salem has been the center of the city since its inception as an exclusive community of wealthy tobacco and textile families. The West End was built around one of the country's first electric tramways, and was equipped with the Millionaires' Row, in which the Reynolds and Hanes families had houses that were bought with productive assets. Built between 1890 and 1930, the district is renowned for its hospitality as well as for the largest and most varied concentration of design in the region. - 2 Historic Bethabara Park, 2147 Bethabara Road. The park offers costumed guides that lead visitors through a church built in 1788. In addition, you can visit two historic buildings, a restored fortress from the French/Indian War and a restored medical garden.
- 3 Charlotte and Philip Hanes Art Gallery at the Scales Fine Arts Center, 1834 Wake Forest Road. Tel: +1 336 758-5585. In 1991, the Scales Fine Arts Center dedicated its gallery Philip Hanes and his wife Charlotte to Wake Forest University to honor their contributions to art. - Diggs Gallery, 601 South Martin Luther King Drive. Named after James Thackeray "T" Diggs, Jr., graduate of Winston-Salem State University in 1934, painter and art professor for 40 years. It features one of North Carolina’s largest exhibitions dedicated to the art of Africa and the African diaspora, as well as musical performances, dance, drums, artist workshops, theater productions and film screenings. - 4 Downtown Arts District (DADA), Sixth and Trade Streets in Downtown. DADA, an ultra-hip area in the city center, is a versatile collection of workshops, galleries, shops and restaurants.
